Dermaplaning

This is a simple and safe procedure using a sharp blade (scalpel) to exfoliate the epidermis very superficially with the added benefit of removing the fine, vellus hair or ‘peach fuzz’. This procedure has been done for many years but has recently become ‘skin-trendy’ as consumers have become more aware of it world-wide. Popular before events as it leaves skin looking clear, even-toned and make-up glides on beautifully.

Dermaplaning is a great treatment on its own and is often used as a prep before other aesthetic treatments, including enzyme exfoliation, LED, ultrasound or vitamin skin infusions. Other skin conditions that benefit are dry, dehydrated skins, fine lines and wrinkles and milder acne. Clients that have lots of fine hair particularly like dermaplaning for the smooth finish. Hair can trap dead skin cells and oil in the follicles resulting in clogged pores so removing it often improves the condition.

There is no downtime with this treatment. Dermaplaning is most commonly done monthly but can be done as often as every two weeks. Although merely an old wives’ tale, some clients have been concerned that the hair will grow back thicker and darker after dermaplaning. You can be rest assured this cannot change the structure and growth pattern of the hair. It will grow back at the same rate and thickness as before. The hair tip may feel blunt for a day or two when it grows; this should not be confused with extra hair growth.
